Inquiries, Motions and Petitions

Parliamentary Inquiries

Paul sat on the Environment and Public Affairs Committee,  a Parliamentary committee with the power to inquire into and report on matters affecting the environment.  The Committee can also consider petitions and any Bill referred to it by the Legislative Council.

Motions

  • disallowing GM crop orders
  • State renewable energy feed in laws
  • protecting native forests
  • recovering our catchments

Motions can be moved to disallow regulations and some other instruments.  Members can also move motions to trigger a debate on issues they feel to be important.  Paul uses these mechanisms to oppose regulations he is concerned about, and to prompt debate on important green issues.

Petitions

A petition is a request for action by the Parliament.  It can be a useful way for members of the public to raise issues that would otherwise be ignored.  Click here for Legislative Council guide to petitions.
