The Minister published a new Exemption Order on the same terms on 14th of April, making trials legal again. Paul Llewellyn will move to disallow this second order as soon as possible.
Urgency motion
On 17th of March, Paul moved an urgency motion:
That, in light of the ongoing community concerns, this house calls on the Liberal/National Government to abandon the current push for GM crops in WA.
The proposed canola trials are commercial in scale and pose unmanageable risks to farming enterprises and the environment.
Disallowance motion - move to block GM cotton
On 10 March 2009, Paul Llewellyn gave notice in Parliament that he will move:
That the Genetically Modified Crops Free Areas Exemption Order (No .3) 2008 published in the Gazette on 28 November 2008 and tabled in the Legislative Council on 9 December 2008 under the Genetically Modified Crops Free Areas Act 2003, be and is hereby disallowed. (Tabled paper 418).
