Motion for State feed-in laws

  • A Clean Energy Future

On 1 April 2009, the Western Australian Upper House passed Paul Llewellyn's motion:

  • That this house call on the Western Australian government to introduce a state-based comprehensive gross feed-in tariff for renewable energy technologies.

A feed-in tariff is needed to create large scale investment for all renewable energy technologies including solar, wind and bio energy while doing away with the complex and expensive system of rebates and grants that we currently have.

Ideally a national scheme should be introduced, but more than anything governments need to take action now to create the right incentives for renewable energy.

A bill for Western Australia is currently being drafted, based on the Federal model proposed by Senator Christine Milne. You can read the Bill here, the Explanatory Memorandum here and Christine's Second Reading Speech here.
