A Clean Energy Future

Paul supports the Federal Greens campaign for a Nationally consistent feed in tariff and has received unanimous support from the Western Australian Upper House in 2009 for a feed-in tariff for Western Australia. Paul's Youtube comments are at 3min16sec.

In 2005, his first year in Parliament, Paul introduced the Electricity Industry (Western Australian Renewable Energy Targets) Bill 2005.  This Bill, which proposed a renewable energy target of 20% by 2020, helped support a successful campaign for this target to be adopted nationally.

Renewable energy has a significant role to play in tackling climate change. Western Australia has abundant solar, wind and other renewable energy resources and can play a big part in the shift to a prosperous, clean energy future.

Rapid renewable energy industry development needs further stimulation through the right laws and incentives.

Greens Senator Christine Milne's push for national "feed-in tariffs" would complement the renewable energy target. It would be used to support particular renewable energy technologies that provide base-load generation, such as solar thermal and geothermal.

Paul also advocated other steps that should be taken by the WA Government, including directing spending on electricity network upgrades in a way that promotes renewables rather than coal-fired generation.
